no interaction??might be social anxiety!!!

What is Social Anxiety Disorder? In social anxiety disorder (SAD) a person experiences extreme anxiety when they have to interact with known and unknown people irrespective of gender. Patients avoid all types of social functions, get-togethers and parties. SAD is found among both men and women. These people lead a normal life expect in relation to interacting with people. They take a very long time to relate to other people including colleagues. They form very few close relationships within and outside the family. Invariably the person with whom they form relationships are also socially shy people. Do people develop this in childhood or as adults? A person can acquire SAD as a child or develop it during adulthood. Socially shy parents or parent may teach the child to avoid unnecessary interaction, which the child may follow in the initial years. Then it becomes their nature to avoid people. In adults, it can happen when successive relationships result in disappointment, rejection, criticism or being exploited financially or sexually. Similarly people who were subjected to emotional abuse may develop SAD. Take the case of the college boy befriended by a married woman. She told him about her unhappy life and how he made her very happy. Hearing such sentiments, the boy took it upon himself to keep the woman happy. After five years, to his shock and disbelief, he saw her getting very intimate with her boss. She also started avoiding him. The boy became very withdrawn and developed a distrustful attitude. He started avoiding people even for official purpose. Whenever he had to meet someone, he would make an excuse. This affected his work to the extent that he lost five jobs. This does not mean all exploitative relationships lead to SAD!How does it affect a person’s life? The sense of avoidance is so high that they will not hesitate to resign their jobs if it necessitates interaction with people. Even if the salary is lucrative, they will refuse promotion and remain in a self-defined comfort zone. In a married couple, if one partner has social anxiety, the other person’s friendliness can be misinterpreted as loss of interest in marriage, or even unfaithfulness. This can lead to enormous strain in the relationship. If motivated to attend a social gathering, they will be silent spectators and will be thinking of how to leave the place. Seeing their discomfort, people slowly stop inviting them for social gatherings. What is the treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder? SAD is treated with medicines and psychotherapy. Social anxiety manifests due to faulty thought processing, dysfunctional beliefs and consequent anxious physical reactions. This can be either secondary to a traumatic real life experience or totally imagined. Cognitive Behaviour therapy is very effective along with anxolytic medication. In this, the person is enabled to identify the initial experience, which leads to the formation of thoughts process causing the anxiety. The CCLD approach — ‘Challenging’ old faulty beliefs and thoughts, ‘Controlling’ the physical manifestation of anxiety that leads to avoiding the situation, ‘Learning’ what to say after saying hello and ‘Doing’ interactive sessions with people initially in role play with the therapist and then slowly moving towards real life situations — is believed to be very helpful. The entire therapy takes about 15 sessions and the progress directly depends on the efforts of the person to perform the physical and cognitive homework. On an average, what is the percentage of people suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder? There is no definite epidemiological data to answer this question. Around five per cent of people could be suffering from this disorder. What is the biggest hurdle involved in fighting Social Anxiety Disorder? People do not consider this as a problem and so they just learn to live with it. Only if it grossly disturbs their vocation or marital relationship do they look for treatment. People have a tendency to expect medicines or their birthstone to solve their problems. Instead if they put in efforts on physical and cognitive exercises they can easily overcome this embarrassing and socially paralysing disorder. People with social anxiety disorder live a very restricted life, which they find to be comfortable and compromise on many aspects of life. The comfort feeling they have is another hurdle that prevents them from seeking help.

I miss u da song

This song is currently a rage among youngsters , this is a well conceived song with a strong accent on melody, in spite of the rhythm accompaniment. The yearning and longing felt by the lady who is missing her lover are so effectively conveyed by Chinmayee singing in a husky soft voice. The chord’ saa dha, saa pa’ occur throughout the song which adds to the melodic appeal. Sindhubhairavi seems to have been used here. Listeners could warm to this song soon. According to the website, this song seems to have been picturised in an expensively erected, futuristic setting! So hope the video rocks too . . .

Yoga freak

Now i would want to tell you all that i am a Yoga freak , who cares a lot about maintaining his health .I have immense faith in the fact that a healthy body would lead to a real healthy life. Now coming to the content of the post , i read it somewhere that Bikram is getting popular nowadays more popular than Yoga and is replacing Yoga itself!!!!I certainly do not think that it is true. I know that Bikram an intense workout. But to call it yoga? The very word “yoga” implies something much more grounded and centered. I’ve done bikram and I enjoy it when I need an extreme push. It does not help when you need mindfulness and breath-synchronized movement.Whatever people decide to do, I just want people to know that bikram isn’t yoga.

travel

I love travelling a lot .There have been many exotic and beautiful places that i have been to.Yet there is these few select odd ones that stuck out and are more memorable than others , good or bad, simply for their experience. There have been many deserted train and bus stations, sometimes planned and sometimes not. The worst of the bus stations for me was the one in Bombay india - I arrived at about two in the morning and all the benches were occupied except for one. I grabbed the bench, which was outside under a giant light, but before I could sit I had to brush away hundreds of giant black beetles that were crawling all over it. I spent the next five or six hours attempting to sleep as the giant beetles had their way with me. By morning the expansive white tile floor of the station was completely concealed in a blanket of black beetles. My favorite ’strange’ places that I slept during my travels would be in an igloo-like snow cave that I helped build on the Ice Shelf in Shimla and a mosquito-netted hammock in the middle of the huge Snow - Both were amazing in their own way.

Coral reefs facing extinction...

It is heartening to note that a third of reef building corals world wide are wiped out due to climate change and water pollution according to a news report. It is further observed in that study that destructive fishing and the degradation of coastal habitats also posing such danger. When corals die off, so do the other plants and animals that depend on coral reefs for their food and shelter and this further lead to the collapse of entire ecosystems. Sea temperature rises bleach and weaken the algae that gives the underwater sea life its vibrant color and make it more susceptible to disease.

Twenty20 format of cricket

The regular five days’ cricket match is slowly waning away from the public mind as One-day cricket captured then. People also do not have the patience to know the end result after five full days spending their valuble time and know the result. Thus one day cricket virtually win over the minds of people and had to stay with us for quite some time. But this Twenty20 format of cricket introduced by IPL will overshadow one day cricket. The success of Twenty20 format is partly due to the novelty of the format. The usual festival atmosphere in the stadiums with bursting of crackers and whistling, bang bang game are a departure of normal sight. The amount of money generated in Twenty20 format is mind boggling. But any thing overdoes is a disastrous to the game itself. Since Twenty20 format is at the infant stage, rules and laws should be made so that players should not be burnt out as Twenty20 format demands high level of player’s fitness. Further, playing in Twnety20 formats demands more physical and intense than the normal 50over One day game and Test Cricket. Any thing in excess would hurt the player’s career should not be a career threatening factor.

Can you guess???

This is the question that is being asked after every single technological evolution. It can be either stem cells application, cloning, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence gasping for breath, cold fusion, traveling faster than light, hybrid cars replacing the conventional cars, a place for permanent base at Moon, Manned missions to Mars and beyond, telemedicine, artificial and regenerated organs and so on and so forth. Humanity will slowly developed into a homogeneously populated in a unified planet. With the advent of Science, the prices are reducing. For example, the desalination of water per gallon which costs around $20 about 20 years ago, now costs a few cent. How is that possible? The Hybrid cars would slowly replace the gaz guzzling cars and would surely create a revolution. May be quantum computers are expected to arrive to complete the task of in matter of seconds the work being done by the normal computers for years. May be future school going children will be done away with usage of note books and books and will use only laptops. You can see the cell phone revolution that make the world so small at your palm. That is the power of science. Who knows what next. May be the world community would move beyond knowledge gathering.

excellent song

I recently heard a song from an indian album called kuselan A majestic instrumental opening: Speaks of the way cinema gives form and shape to long forgotten names and figures , (why, even God, for that matter) and enriches our imagination. The lyricist recalls the employment generated for scores of people by way of group dancing and extras. And the kind of co operation that goes into bringing out a movie. The song also happily revels in the fame achieved by the Heroes, cutting across all layers of society! ‘ Seems to be based on Natabhairavi scale with the phrase’ paa saa nee dha’ employed attractively. Violins are very pleasingly used. A fitting tribute to the industry in singers passionate voice. Strong rhythms seem to cut into the smooth flow of the lyric.
